Beavers Raise £331

10th Perthshire Beavers have raised a fantastic £331 towards a new Clean Water Well in the Lubwe area. This together with the 10th Perthshire Scouts Water Awareness night contributed a massive £386 towards a new well which will be dug this Summer providing water for life for yet another community in the area.

The result of the Chamboree 2010 has now risen to £2390 and still efforts continue.

In 2005 I asked Sister Delphine, who then was in charge of Lubwe Mission Hospital, what their biggest single problem was. She said 'Clean water'. I had not realised that so many beds (60%) were taken up as a result of this single problem. We have since then dug, or refurbished and fitted pumps to, over 55 wells.

This has to date achieved a reduction in the Hospital beds occupied by those suffering from water borne diseases of more than three quarters and many lives have been saved as a direct result.
